La carretera india no tiene nada que envidiar en inseguridad a la ciudad. En sentido único las probabilidades de supervivencia son relativamente altas, pero en doble caen abruptamente. La regla es que no hay reglas. En cuanto hay un sitio libre por pequeño y peligroso que sea, se adelanta. Si resulta que el carril es de sentido contrario y entra a la vez un coche, le dejamos amablemente pasar invadiendo el arcén. Al principio se me encogía el corazón en cada situación peligrosa, pero al rato aceptas que es así y que si Shiva o alguno de sus familiares y colegas quiere que acabes allí, pues se acaba y ya está. La más peligrosa: adelantando a un camión, nos metemos en el otro carril en sentido opuesto, pasa una moto, nos metemos en el arcén para evitarla, nos regaló una raya que cruza todo el lado izquierdo del coche a cambio de habernos llevado su retrovisor. Un cacharro menos, al parecer no los usan en este país. Suerte que tenía mi brazo dentro del coche.

Indian roads are as unsafe as the big city ones. In one way roads, the probabilities of survival are still high, but in two ways they fall drastically. The rule is there is no rule.
